An animal lover's vacation desintation!
The Bahamas is a great place to vacation. There you can relax, have fun, and soak up some sun! What most people don’t actually know about the Bahamas though, is that it's a great location to spot wildlife, making it an idea travel destination for animal lovers! These islands are crawling with exciting wild animals on and offshore.
The most unique and surprising wildlife encounter you can have in the Bahamas is swimming with pigs. On the island of Big Major Cay there are cute wild, non native, pigs that you can actually swim with. Keep in mind that while these pigs are okay to interact with, the other wild animals on the islands are not the same. However, you can view and get very close to some other wildlife in the Bahamas, such as The Iguanas of Sandy Cay. These Iguanas are known for sunbathing on rocks, and are protected by living in a national park, making sure that they will still be around on Sandy Cay for years to come! The birding capital of the Bahamas is Inagua, and if you drive out to the salt pans of Lake Rosa you will be able to see tons of flamingos. Some aquatic animals that you are likely to spot in the Bahamas are dolphins and sea turtles. One of the best ways to spot dolphins is to go boating in Bimini. If you want to see sea turtles, the best way to ensure this is to take a kayak through the canal that connects Winding Bay to Half Sound during high tide. Adventure (and plenty of wild animals) awaits in the Bahamas!
