On Monday February 15th and Tuesday February 16th the 140th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show occurred. There was a great turnout of competitors, over 3,000 dogs were entered! Night one consisted of the Hound category, the Toy category, the Non-Sporting category, and the Herding Category.

The show started with the Hounds. While 2015’s best in show, Miss P (a Beagle) was part of this group, Lucy a Borzoi took first place for the hounds. Next in line were the Toy dogs, and a Shih Tzu named Panda took home the first place title. English Bulldogs are always a crowd favorite, and this year was no exception. Annabelle, an English Bulldog, won first place for the Non-Sporting category. Finally, to close out night one, the Herding dogs took the stage. The first place winner was Rumor, a four-year-old German Shepard, who was easily the fan favorite of the night.

On Tuesday, night two brought the Sporting, Working, Terrier, and the Best in Show categories.

The show began with the Sporting group where CJ, a shorthaired Pointer was victorious. The Sporting group is extremely competitive and there are many crowd favorites in that category, so it is difficult to win. While Dario, a Leonberger was a huge crowd favorite in the Working category, Bogey the Samoyed took first place. The Terriers were the last group to go, and Charlie, a Skye Terrier, won.

Finally was the Best in Show category. The 7 winning dogs from Monday and Tuesday night competed for first place. While Rumor and Annabelle were both crowd favorites, CJ the German Shorthaired Pointer took Best in Show. CJ is the third German Shorthaired Pointer to ever win best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, one of whom was his grandmother Carlee who one back in 2005.
