Q: I am planning on getting a puppy soon, but have no idea how to housetrain! What are some tips?

A: It is important to take your new puppy outside often, especially after every time it eats, as well as first thing in the morning and right before bed. Whenever your puppy goes to the bathroom outside, reward him or her with a treat! Get your puppy on a regular feeding schedule too! When you can’t be there to supervise your puppy, make sure you confine it to a smaller area so messes will be controlled. Make sure you never punish your puppy for an accident inside!

Q: My kids love animals and want a pet, but they are allergic to dogs and cats. What should I do?

A: There are plenty of hypoallergenic cats and dog breeds, which your kids may not be allergic to! Or, you can go for a lower maintenance pet such as a fish, frog, snake, turtle, or lizard. Since these animals do not have fur it is unlikely your kids will be allergic!
