Almost to ten years ago, Steve Irwin passed away in a tragic snorkeling accident involving a stingray while he was filming a documentary. Steve Irwin was known internationally for his work with animals and for owning the Australia Zoo, as well as his popular TV show “The Crocodile Hunter” where he selflessly rescued countless crocs. While Steve is missed by many people around the world, his legacy lives on in the amazing work he did for animals and the environment.

Steve was a passionate conservationist and environmentalist. He worked hard to help endangered species and to prevent land from being cleared. He dedicated his life to saving animals and the environment. As part of his conservation he purchased large amounts of land in Australia, Vanuatu, Fiji, and the United States to see that they would be preserved and not cleared. Steve also founded many organizations. In 2002 he founded the Wildlife Warriors, a nonprofit organization which works to involve and educate others about the protection of threatened wildlife. He also founded the International Crocodile Rescue which works to rescue and relocate Crocodiles who are in danger (usually due to human activity). Steve dedicated much of his life to rescuing crocodiles. In addition to these he also founded the Lyn Irwin Fund and the Iron Bark Station Wildlife Rehabilitation Facility, a 3,540 acre habitat conservation area.

Steve’s legacy also lives on in the Australia Zoo, which he, his wife, and his parents founded in 1991. Thanks to Steve, the zoo still works hard towards endless conservation causes, animal rescues and research, and to educate millions of people about the environment.

Steve Irwin was the epitome of a Wildlife Warrior. He dedicated his life to fighting for the the animals and ecosystems of our world. We should all follow his lead and do our part to ensure the safety of our environment, and help Steve’s legacy live on.
